When you get a microcurrent facial, the facial muscles and your skin are being giving a workout that stimulates collagen and elastin production. Collagen and elastin are two essential proteins needed for the skin to remain youthful and glowing.
If you have skin with fine lines or wrinkles, sagging muscles or lost elasticity, microcurrent has the ability to restore the lost energy to your tissues and thereby turning back the hands of time in your skin.
Microcurrent facials are a safe and non-invasive procedure that will sculpt your face, accentuating cheek bones, smoothing out wrinkles and defining your jaw line. Your skin will look amazing and the results are CUMULATIVE!
Additional benefits are, lymphatic drainage, regeneration of connective tissue, tones and tightens the skin, enhanced skin elasticity, skin pigmentation is improved. YOU will see results after the first facial and a vast improvement after each one.
They must be done in a series to be the most effective.

The Importance of Double Cleansing
You wouldn’t take a shower with your clothes on would you? No, you have to remove your clothes first before you can wash your body. It’s the same with your face, first you have to remove your makeup and the day’s grime before you can get to the business of deeply cleansing your skin and pores. Double cleansing every evening has been a staple in Asian skincare for years and can be done on any skin type.
Two products are used in double cleansing, a facial makeup remover (which can be different from an eye makeup remover), and a facial cleanser.
Facial makeup remover is used as the first cleanse to remove makeup, dirt, oils, sweat, pollution and the days accumulated grime.
Facial cleanser is used as the second cleanse to deeply cleanse pores and surface skin.
Facial makeup remover can come in different forms, from liquid, oil, gel, or cream, to plain old olive oil. Which form you choose will depend on your skin type, and the product line you are using.
Begin your double cleansing in the evening. Put a small amount of your chosen form of facial makeup remover onto one or two cotton pads and gently massage your entire face. If necessary, use a second set of cotton pads to remove any excess makeup remover and debris. If desired, rinse with wet cotton pads. If you don’t have a specific facial makeup remover, you can use plain old oil olive oil, or in a pinch, you can also use your facial cleanser for the first cleanse. But it’s best if you use the proper products for the proper step.
Facial cleansers also come in a variety of forms. Generally they are creamy, foaming, or gel. Some newer cleansers for sensitive skin may also be oil-based. Again, the form you choose will depend on your skin type, and the product line you are using.
To deep cleanse, put a small amount of your chosen facial cleanser into your hands and rub together, then pat onto your face and gently massage with water or a wet washcloth or sponges, or a Clarisonic brush. Massage thoroughly, then rinse thoroughly with water.
In all, double cleansing should only take about 2-3 minutes in your evening skincare routine. Double cleansing your skin allows it to more easily breathe, excrete, and regenerate. Thorough cleansing of your skin is one of the most important steps you can take to ensure clear and radiant skin. So take the few extra minutes to give your skin the double cleansing it needs and it will reward you by growing healthier and stronger.
On a final note, don’t forget to moisturize after you have cleansed. Once cleansed, it’s time to feed your skin. This is where moisturizers and night creams come in. You have now completed a basic evening skincare routine.

It takes effort to have beautiful skin.
This is a tough time for high-end beauty brands of all sorts. Sales of luxury beauty products have fallen in the U.S. since the recession started, as Americans have traded down to drugstore products or simply bought fewer cosmetics. (Sad.)
Also, American and Japanese women still take sharply different approaches to skin care. Though skin-care awareness has increased in the U.S., the amount of money and time the U.S. consumer spends on her regimen is still far lower than that of her Japanese counterpart. The average Japanese woman spends 60% of her cosmetics budget on skin care, compared with 30% for American women.
A Shiseido survey found nearly 69% of Japanese women used cleanser, toner and moisturizer religiously at night, compared with only 17% of American women. Indeed, Shiseido has documented that the average Japanese woman employs a much larger array of products each evening—as many as six products. First, she removes her make-up with an oil-based product. Then comes cleansing the face. This is followed by a lotion—a toner-like skin softener—and then possibly an "essence," or serum. Finally, she pats on an emulsion, which is less viscous than a cream, and then a traditional cream. All of this is achieved while performing an elaborate facial massage meant to help prevent sagging and wrinkling.
(The Bathery endorses this method of skincare).
"The psyche of the American consumer is about a quick fix, and not about prevention," says Ms. Yamagishi-Dressler of Shiseido.
Says Cassandra: I find the above to be the saddest statement of all. American women are so quick to spend thousands on botox and injectibles, but they refrain from spending one or two hundred dollars and putting in the time with effective skincare products. I would like to have a hand in re-educating American women about their skin and skincare practices.

Noevir Herbal Skincare

Noevir is The Bathery's sideline skincare product. This wonderful product line is made in Japan using herbs and botanicals from the Baden-Baden region of Germany, where our family is from! This excellent video demonstrates the use of cleansers, toners, masks, and moisturizers. This protocol can be used for all skincare products. The video also explains the importance of daily skincare, something we teach all of our clients. 8 minutes worth watching! If you would like a facial at The Bathery using Noevir products, just ask!

Don't be fooled by the hype!
Was recently reading in some industry mags and had to chuckle over some of the marketing ploys some spas are using to draw you in and make you think you are getting something "unique" and therefore justifying the ridiculous prices they charge. Let me be the one to tell you, there is a lot of hype over some newer but somewhat standard treatment methods.
Last year The Bathery got a Clarisonic face brush and an ultrasonic skin scraper. The Clarisonic is an amazing ultrasonic brush used for cleansing the skin. The skin scraper is a useful tool that gently and effectively "scrapes off" dead skin cells via "cavitation". A lot like the Sonicare ultrasonic toothbrush.
Interestingly, we have been hearing a lot about "crystal-free microdermabrasion" and had to find out what this could be.... well.... it's nothing more than ultrasonic skin scraping. And spas are charging hundreds for it!
Another spa we recently read about is offering an "ultrasonic facial". Of course this perked our interest since we are using ultrasonics at The Bathery. As it turns out, the facial is 30 minutes of nothing more than using the Clarisonic brush to cleanse your face, then exfoliate using the ultrasonic scraper, and the additional use of the new Clarisonic Opal which is for exclusive use around the eyes to penetrate eye creams deeper into thin tissue. (The Bathery may get one of these soon).
What we find so humorous in all this is that, at The Bathery, we incorporate ultrasonics into almost every facial we do. We almost always use the Clarisonic brush for cleansing, and depending on the type of facial we are doing we like to use the ultrasonic scraper for both exfoliating and penetrating of masks and creams. And we don't charge extra for it! It's standard operating procedure.
So don't be fooled by these high end fancy spas telling you that you need to spend hundreds of dollars for their special procedures. You don't. Just come to The Bathery.
